What To Do If Your Local Pharmacy Was Dropped From the TRICARE Network

Caregivers | Patients

If you’re an active duty or retired service member or family member and you take medications, you probably noticed that your TRICARE coverage may have recently changed. As of October 24, 2022, nearly 15,000 independent and community pharmacies will no longer participate in the TRICARE pharmacy network. This means that if you fill a prescription at a pharmacy that was dropped from the TRICARE network, you’ll pay full price for your medication and will need to file a claim for reimbursement. Your claim may be subject to a deductible or copayment.

For those affected, the TRICARE retail network will continue to offer some local options for filling prescriptions – even in rural areas – although your trusted neighborhood drug store may no longer be included. Many service members and their families will have to make some changes to the way they get their medications.

This change may be challenging for many who are accustomed to dealing with familiar faces in their neighborhood drug stores, especially those who are ill and can’t get around easily.  You feel welcome and valued in your community pharmacy, and they have their own particular benefits over big chain stores like shorter wait times and drive-thru pick-up options.

The prospect of losing access to people you know at a nearby location can be disheartening. The good news is that TRICARE beneficiaries can still access those services by switching to an online pharmacy. These services have evolved and now provide the same level of personalization, reliability and convenience you thought only possible from a local drug store.

PersonalRX is an example of an online pharmacy that provides many of the premium services you expect, with some additional benefits that may surprise you. From the start, PersonalRX team members work with each doctor to gather all medication details, manage any changes and safety concerns, and schedule timely delivery so you never have to worry about ordering refills.

Worried about being able to talk to a trusted professional who knows you? When you join PersonalRX, you’re assigned a personal care coordinator who manages shipments and copays, reaches out to you and your physicians when anything changes, and alerts you when you can expect to receive your personalized dose packs. Pharmacists are available 24/7 to answer questions. Best of all, you don’t have to travel to the drug store and you don’t ever need to wait in a line.

And all these services are provided for the same copay you usually pay – there is no extra cost from what you paid at your local pharmacy.

If your TRICARE Pharmacy has suddenly gone AWOL, discover how easy it is to switch to PersonalRX. You’ll get the same personal services as your old pharmacy with some additional convenient features that will take the stress out of medication management. Click here to get started.
